We have seen that we use the present perfect to:
connect the past with the present
I have been studying English for 5 years (I still study English;now is year 5)
Recent action
I have just eaten (a short while ago I ate)
Experience
She has jumped out of airplane (at some point in her life)
We also use the present perfect in the future!
I will call you after I have arrived (event 1 arrive, event 2 call)
I will wash the plate after I have finished
He will turn the light off after he has finished working in the office
Why?
It is very common to use this form to describe an activity after another.
I will think about this concept after I have read it.
You could also use the simple present in the second clause:
I will think about after I read it.
Whilst both are possible, the present perfect is far more common and it needs to be used to speak fluently. It works in both formal and informal communication; spoken and written.
We can also use this form for the second and third person:
Call me when you have received this message.
She can take the meeting after she has arrived; it doe snot matter if the pother director has arrived or not.
_______
Now it’s your turn!
How have you responded after someone has told you a lie?
After a colleague of yours has arrived at the office what do they do?
Once the windows have been opened in your home, how do you feel?
