GET or TAKE what is the difference?

There are some expressions that only use one or the other

 

GET

 

 

Lets get a coffee! 

 

I hope I don’t get a cold!

 

They will get some shopping.

 

I don’t get it. (I don’t understand)

 

It is Friday and I am going to get drunk

 

If you eat all that food, you are going to get sick.

 

To get a vaccination, you will need to go to the clinic.

 

TAKE

 

They will only know if they take a chance.

 

Take a look at that!

 

Who knows what is going to happen next, it is better to take it as it comes.

 

After thinking about it, you can take the option you think suits you best.

 

Take for example, a situation where people do not think for themselves. What will eventually happen to society as a whole?

 

TAKE/GET

 

To get to the city centre, it is better to take/get a bus/taxi/train/plane.

 

 

 

the differences

 

 

(passive) If someone provides you with something, you get something.

 

On my birthday, I got many presents. (past tense)

 

This year I got a pay rise, my first after ten years service. (past tense)

 

Maybe they will get recognition for their charity work. (future)

 

What an surprising day, I arrived at the office and I got a hug. (past)

 

(active) When you take something you perform an action so that something is in your possession

 

 

The dog is taking the pumpkin. (happening now/present continuous)

 

Help yourself, please take the cake of your choice.

 

I can’t reach, please can you take the book off the shelf for me?
