We form adverbs by adding ‘ly’ to adjectives.
They wanted to be candid when they were speaking. [adjective]
They decided that speaking candidly was the only way to deal with the situation. [adverb]
Is it really necessary to be angry all the time? [adjective]
it was painful watching them angrily working through the issues. [adverb]
The book was interesting enough to read. [adjective]
They all said that they interestingly read the book, one after the other. [adverb]
The most boring food to eat for lunch is a biscuit. [adjective]
She boringly ate the biscuit for lunch. [adverb]
It would be stupid to open the door in this storm. [adjective]
I stupidly opened the door in the storm. [adverb]
Not all words that end in ‘ly’ are adverbs
It was a costly mistake to buy that car.
It was deadly to try and fix the car during the floods.
What a friendly lady, she really knows how to communicate with people.
It is very likely that it will start to get cold in the next week.
There is nothing better than a timely lunch.
some adverbs are spelt the same as the adjective
He is a freelance designer.
He is working freelance as a designer.
After the long dry summer, the earth in the garden is very hard.
It’s holiday time, lets party hard.
The new car is very fast.
I can never run fast after eating food.
There is a yearly meeting to assess the company finances.
We meet yearly to discuss the company finances.
Note that the examples above become an adverb because of how they are used and not how they are spelt spelt.
