Often when used in a legal context, vocabulary can focus on a different meaning which is tacit to the legal context it is being used. Below are some examples which have familiar uses in day to day English but we will provide some examples in a legal context.
Let’s consider the notion of ‘to stop’ and different connotations below
extinguish – to take something away
‘On the grounds that we cosider it completly incompatible with the presiding lawwill endeavour to seek an extinguishment of the claim.’
‘There will be no reassignament to the security provider when extinguishment ensues.’
‘It is clear that people’s rights have been extinguished in recent years and as a result, are suffering abhorent consequences in society on a dialy basis.’

Observations:
Fire extinguisher – device for extinguishing fires
terminate – to cause something to end or stop
‘It is the decision of the board to terminate the agreement.’
‘Contract termination can be communicated written communication providing 60 days notice.’
‘Your membership was terminated* as of past month due to inappropriate behaviour in the club’s bar.’ [*here gives the impression that membership was ended early]

Public transport terminates at the end of a journey: ‘all change please, the train terminates here’
cease – to stop something/to not continue
‘My client will cease to pursue the matter should no reponse be received in the alloted time.’
‘The policy will cease following the demise of the contributor.’
‘The exigent behaviour of the crew has deemed it impossible to continue a working relationship and all collaboration has ceased.’

Notes:
A huge consignment of cocaine was ceased at the airport. [confiscated]
The engine has not be mantained and has ceased. [mechanical item stops moving]
