Present continuous and present simple in use

by | 31 Oct 2020 | General English, Grammar

We use the present continuous to describe activities taking place now:

‘I am breathing.’

‘I am reading this blog.’

We use present continuous to describe activities that happen ‘around now’ and not necessarily at the time of speaking:

‘I am working at the airport’

‘I am going to the gym.’

We use present simple to describe the general situation:

‘I drink coffee.’

‘I don’t smoke.’
